I have 2 of the MTH Premier Amtrak Genesis diesels, #156 and #180. All of a sudden when I put the engine on the track and supply power to the track I get the DCS "Engine Not On Track" message. These engines were both working normally until last week when both developed this same problem.

How do I resolve this issue? I have rel. 2.0 of Barry's DCS Bible but I cannot find any mention of this error message and what to do to resolve it.

I would appreciate any help you can provide. All my other MTH DCS diesels work just fine, it's just these two that have developed this problem.

Thanks.

Maybe Barry B. himself will weigh in but I have found that a this is usually the result of the batteries being drained or a dirty section of track. Try placing the engine directly on a terminal (power supply) section of track and let it sit there for a few minutes before trying to address it. If the battery has completely drained you may need to delete it from the DCS memory and add it again.

Charge the Batteries first, Then delete and add engines. I just went through this with a rebuild. Turned out it was a bad battery. Also since you will have the shell off, make sure all the screws are tight in the trucks 3r pick up and ground. If they are loose most likely the battery is not charging and you may be getting intermittent power.  Easy way to check see if the third rail pick up moves when you touch it. Also put the engines on a curve and try it, If your able to at least turn them on that's another sign that you need to make sure the screws are tight and you need to charge or replace with a fully charge battery.
