Just got back from the train store and ran my new locomotive. All I can say is WOW! What a beautiful locomotive. My first impressions are that MTH put allot of effort into this particular locomotive. First, the paint scheme is very colorful and the DCS MTH logo is proudly displayed on the engines sides. This is a premier rendition and thus it has all the bells and whistles one would expect from MTH. From ground lights to crew talk and yes.....the infamous smoke unit. However, what really makes this locomotive unique are the lighting effects that flash all around the locomotive. Just beautiful. She runs smooth and she is quite loud. The bell and horn effects are right on target.

This locomotive was manufactured back in 2013. It is a promotional type release. Thus, very few were made and I don't know the exact number, but I imagine it was not that many. If anyone is familiar with the MTH GE Demo locomotive with those lights going around the frame of the locomotive, that is what MTH did for this release and it is neat to look at as the locomotive makes its way around the track.

Anyway, I thought I would share this. Though not an official review, I wanted to share at least some of my joy having this locomotive. Also, I know I need to post video or pictures, but I have a small issue with my laptop and need some time to work it out. When I do, I will post pictures then. In the meantime, if anyone wants to post the pictures or MTH video of this locomotive, please feel free to do so. I would be grateful.

Again, thanks.

Pete

By the way, the cost for this locomotive was just at $420.00, but that is last years cost. Today, it should actually retail for around $475.00 to almost $500.00 dollars. Though most places will try and discount their items some. For what I got, I'd say I got a pretty good deal.

If so, there were 100 units made.

The same applies to the other two 'company colors' units below:

There's also a RailKing ES44 Hybrid coming out in Railroader Club colors, supposedly shipping sometime this month if the schedule holds up. Larger pictures available on the original thread I posted the above from.

Thanks railride. Yes, that is the locomotive alright. Thank you for posting the pictures. I truly appreciate that allot.

Yea, she's a beauty alright and she is a nice addition to my meager but hopefully, growing collection of 0 gauge modern era locomotives.

Thanks and Happy Holidays to you.

Wow Spence, I like that loco as well. How did you come by it? I got mine at the local shop I go too. Really cool paint scheme.

BTW is this purple or plum? I think it is plum, but my eyes are not what they used to be as far as determining colors and such.

Thanks, Pete

Wait a minute!  The ES44AC (and ES44DC) signifies Evolution Series.  Railfans call them GEVO's for short (General Electric Evolution Series).  There are many hundreds if not over a thousand prototypes working out there everyday.

The blue and green ES44 with the flashing charging lights is the Evolution Series HYBRID!! There was only one and it was only seen for a short period out on the rails.

No, it is an ES44AC with the DCS MTH paint scheme Spence. However, it does have the same lighting effects as that lime green GE Evolution.

I would love to get the GE Evolution.

Thank you Martin for clarifying this. No matter which, they are all beautiful locomotives to look at and run on layouts. The lighting effects are awesome.

They were advertised as such a limited-edition in the email sent out to Railroader Club members. None of these appeared in the regular catalog. This particular unit sold out in a day or two following its announcement.
