I'm using an MTH Explorer from a RTR set----waiting on the MTH TIU to become available (anyone heard any update on the new system)....ebay is just sky high crazy. I'm not able to run a Proto2 on Explorer (i thought any Proto would work....but unfortunately the app says i must upgrade to the TIU)....which I would be happy to do if it were available.......anything I'm doing wrong?? and any update on when a TIU will become available?

I have unfortunately also found that getting dcs explorer to play nice with proto 2 engines is seriously hit or miss, and its usually miss. I was pretty disappointed. I bought the explorer as a lower cost controller for a shelf display. It just didn't work out.
Getting Proto 2 engines to work can really be challenging at times.
The Explorer can only have 3 engines linked to it and if you attempt to enter a 4th engine you get the error message to upgrade.
It’s easy to delete one engine to add a new one, but recognizing a PS 2 can take many attempts and also involve unplugging the Explorer and starting again.

I have never been able to get any my Proto 2.0 engines to be recognized by the explorer. I too am waiting on the new system.
This thread is very helpful to me. Since I recently bought both the DCS Explorer and DCS Remote Control Set ("DCS Set"), and installed the DCS Set (because I got it 2 days before I got the Explorer, I was not sure which system was better for me.
Since I have a couple of Proto 2 engines, now I know that the DCS Set is probably better for me than the DCS Explorer.
I share this in the event someone unfamiliar with DCS decides to get it and then needs to decide which DCS System is best for them. Arnold
There has been issues getting PS2 5V locomotives to run the explorer. I've never been able to get some of them to work with the Explorer. PS2 3V and PS3 have had no issues with the Explorer. There is some issue with the electronics in the 5V stuff communicating with the Explorer. Don't know what it is and haven't heard of a work around.
