Okay...I am using an android tablet...Samsung Tab A

I purchased the premium upgrade...hoping to get full control of trains.

However, I cannot get the app to read any engines.

The app will find AIUs and I can control switches.

When in the engine screen...I have no access to the either "engine softkey buttons" or "settings" button.

Someone please tell me step-by-step...how to discover firmware version on the WIU.

Thanks for any kind response.

what versions are all your mth dcs equipment?

...but I have all your books

Definitely a good start!

I cannot get the app to read any engines.

Are you adding the engines to the app first?

Regardless, look at page 172 of The DCS WiFi Companion 2nd Edition:

When attempting to troubleshoot an issue with the layout, it’s best to first verify that the problem isn’t due to an oversight on the part of the operator or some other basic item that’s causing DCS to work differently than expected. In this regard, there are a few basic items that should be reviewed prior to beginning to troubleshoot a perceived DCS problem:

  • Ensure that the DCS App is the latest version, currently 3.0.2.
  • Ensure that the WIU firmware is the latest version, currently 1.1.
  • Ensure that the DCS software is the latest version, currently DCS 6.1, and is installed in all of the layout’s TIUs. Further, if any DCS Remotes are used with the layout, they should also be using the same level of DCS software.
  • Be certain to wait long enough for all of the layout’s WIUs to stabilize after being powered on. This can take several minutes, depending upon how you’re connecting to the WIUs:

The most lengthy wait is when the WIU is wirelessly connecting to your home router. This is subject to the reliability of your router, its distance from the WIU, whether you use a static IP or Bonjour connection, and other factors.

Typically, a slightly shorter wait time is experienced if connecting wirelessly in MTH mode.

The shortest wait time is experienced if connecting via wired Ethernet.

  • Ensure that the connecting cable between the TIU and the WIU is the correct cable and is known to work properly.
  • If a Rev. L TIU is connected to the WIU using a USB cable, ensure that there is not a serial cable connected to the TIU’s serial port that isn’t connected to another device.

DCS Book Cover

This and a whole lot more about DCS WiFi is all in MTH’s “The DCS WiFi Companion 2nd Edition!"

This book is available from many fine OGR advertisers and forum sponsors, or as an eBook or a printed book at MTH's web store!

Mr. B...thanks for the response and gentle nudges.

To answer one of your questions...the app would not "find" any engines for me to add.  I already made that mistake earlier...and understand full-well that the engines must be added.  However, I cant' add what is not there.

Today, after I returned home, I turned on the exact same equipment as I was "panicking" over last night...and...the App found the one, live engine that I was attempting to add to the app...I added it...everything is fine...or maybe so....just not sure yet.
