MTH Imperial Northern Sound Problem

there is a volume control for conventional on the tender maybe the volume is turned down? look under tender find volume and turn clockwise to increase other way to turn volume down!!

Well, since he doesn't seem to have a volume control issue, I doubt that will help.

How about a video of what you are seeing/hearing?

I had a issue similar to this on a new Imperial Cab Forward. Make sure the connector on the drawbar is fully and correctly seated into the mating connector. Sometimes, not the easiest thing to do. I would suggest a factory reset, as well.

I did a reset to no avail. Will check the connector on the tether and try to get a video of it. Thanks for the responses.

I went back and listened to some of my other Railking steamers. I think they do play the idling sounds all the time but the chuff sounds drown out the idling sounds when they are moving. On this particular engine the idling sounds are just louder so you here them despite the chuffing sounds. No big deal. I guess thats just the way it is!

Have you looked at the four volume settings in the menu to make sure they're all set at max?

I run conventionally so I dont have access to the menu. So there are separate volume controls for the idle sounds and chuff sounds? If so I could just turn the idle sounds down? 

I note you always run in conventional, but have you thoroughly reviewed the owner's manual?

I found this in the online manual,

•Independent Volume Control of Engine Sounds, Bell, Horn & Whistle, and Accent Sounds for each Locomotive

This is programmable using DCS so I guess one could turn down just the chuff sounds?

Actually, this isn't operating correctly, something is amiss in the sound file.  The idle sounds like that shouldn't be doing what they're doing underway.  I wondered how you were getting that, that's why I wanted to hear a video.  I don't know how that happened, but I suspect my first step would be to reload the MTH 30-1607-1 Sound & Chain Files.

I realize you only run conventional, so you'll have to find a location with the DCS system to have this done.

My MTH E6 has the idle sounds playing when moving but they seem to sound lower than at idle probably because the chuffs overpower them.

Thats what I thought. I know of a tech thats an hour and a half away. Ill give that a try. Thanks!

Yes I have other MTH steamers that do what yours do. The chuffs over power the idle sounds. On this one the idle sounds are just too loud. 

You have some sounds, but the thump you hear should not be present at all when moving, and none of my MTH locomotives have that issue.
