Hi guys:

This is my first post.

I was wondering if anyone could tell me how to remove the body from my new MTH 4-6-2 USRA Heavy Pacific steam engine. The green marker lights went out and I suspect something simple like a loose wire under the hood because the unit is only a month old. I do not want to send it in because of the delicate nature of all of the detailed parts on the body.

I already made certain the setting on the DCS are correct, and yes, the red rears work fine.

Thank you very much, Chris

I have an earlier version of this USRA Pacific - had it apart more than once - and, unless they have changed the castings (very unlikely), it is typical die-cast, Asian construction. Not difficult:

2 screws under the cab (other screws may be there, too - just look around and get familiar with the whole machine, really), and one under the front truck, going up into the smokebox. You may have to remove one of the truck pivot screws to swing the truck out of the way to get to the front (smokebox) screw, or you may not. Don't recall, but that's easy.

After that, the boiler will lift off the chassis. Watch the alignment of the smoke unit as well as pinched wires when re-mounting the boiler.

Look at the white connector in the middle of the boiler board, there should be some contacts still stuck in the shell where those wires must have pulled out of.  That's where they should connect.  You can also add a resistor & diode and run them off track power, as trying to fix the connection on that 1mm connector without the proper tool will be difficult to be generous.

Are you sure those are stock?  The wire gauge looks pretty large for the 1mm connector, almost like they were added by someone.  Those wires didn't just "come out" of the connector on their own!

Thank you John. I actually deleted the post without seeing your reply. I found where they went by finding a space inside a rubber sleeve that held other wires. The indentation struck me as very similar to the shape of the two wires and sure enough the assembly fit right in for purposes of insulation, not attachment. So, they take the ground wires which is what I presume those two wires are, and then run them and attach them and install them into the rubber sleeve to protect them from shorts.

Then they have the single grey hot wire come from one of the bulbs to a wire harness inside the shell. At least I now know how to change the bulbs. I am going to put everything back together and place the engine on the test track and see if the lights work now that I have been pulling on wires and agitating everything. If not, I'll order new ones.

Thank you for your reply!
