By the way, this is a PS1 locomotive that is almost 24 years old. Assume this locomotive, even if it was new, may probably need some work.

Witnessing what the near panic of MTH closing has done to pricing, especially at auction, I think prices are ranging from a bit high...to ludicrous.

The listing says it was upgraded in 2016. I'm not sure what that means exactly.

Could the MTH 20-2156-1 Southern Pacific GP38-2 be upgraded to DCS and would that have to be done at MTH?

If the ad says it has DCS and has been upgraded to PS2 in 2016, then someone put a PS2 board in it.  Not necessarily MTH or an MTH ASC certified tech.  I’m wondering why a PS3 board was not put in since they were available in 2016.  I would contact the seller to get more info.  The response you receive will influence what you should pay for it.  Who put the board in? A certified tech?  Why wasn’t a PS3 board used?  Is it a 3V board or 5V board?  Is there a BCR installed?

eBay is a huge crapshoot for buying stuff like this, anything that has been "upgraded" can be a real mess, I've seen some dandies!  I wouldn't pay more than around $150 for it.  And, if it didn't have what it's described with, it would be going back in a flash!

There is another one that is NIB and hasn't been touched. Who would you recommend do the upgrade to DCS?
