I was visiting a friend's layout this weekend and he had a MTH Maintenance kit full of traction tires, bulbs, etc.  He said it was a "new issue" by MTH and thought there was also a previous maintenance kit that was specifically for Protosound and that the one he had was "new" and for Proto2, but I didn't see any Proto2 parts in it.  Are there more than one type of MTH maintenance kits?  Is there one for Proto and another one for Proto2?  Looking at images in the internet it appears there are different cover insert pictures at least if the one he had is just a reissue of the Proto kit.

I took advantage of a special sale offer from one of our fine Forum sponsors last week and ordered and received the #60-1331 MTH Maintenance Kit.

My roster of MTH locomotives has really grown over the past several years, and it seems that I'm always doing some sort of maintenance work and associated parts ordering.

IMO, this particular kit contains a very comprehensive array of the spare parts...see below.  Even if MTH's claim that it contains over $1,100 worth of parts is overstated or exaggerated, I paid $268 with free shipping, so it still seems like a tremendous value to me!!

Description

appeared in:     2014 Volume 1

A perfect service solution for every modeler who owns a large fleet of M.T.H. O Gauge locomotives.  Kit includes traction tires, replacement bulbs, smoke unit parts, speakers, pickup rollers, wire harnesses, couplers and much, much more.  Total value of the parts is over $1,100.00!!!!

KIT CONTENTS

  • Traction Tire Assortment (160 count)
  • Smoke Unit Parts (wicks, motors, impellers, gaskets)
  • Bulb Assortment (65 count)
  • Pickup Roller Assortment (40 count)
  • Coupler Assortment (24 count)
  • Speaker Assortment (4 count)
  • Speaker Gasket Assortment (4 count)
  • Tender Wire Harness Assortment (6 count)
  • B Unit Wire Harness Assortment (2 count)
  • Wireless Drawbar Assortment (2 count)
  • Screw Assortment (260 count)

So it's mostly full of the same as the older, less expensive kit, with the addition of the parts you mentioned, speaker and screws?
