I was visiting a friend's layout this weekend and he had a MTH Maintenance kit full of traction tires, bulbs, etc. He said it was a "new issue" by MTH and thought there was also a previous maintenance kit that was specifically for Protosound and that the one he had was "new" and for Proto2, but I didn't see any Proto2 parts in it. Are there more than one type of MTH maintenance kits? Is there one for Proto and another one for Proto2? Looking at images in the internet it appears there are different cover insert pictures at least if the one he had is just a reissue of the Proto kit.

did your friend have a part number?
Did you happen to go to the MTH website, and do a search for "maintenance kit"? The list 4 different ones, but the two with parts, tires, and all kinds of stuff are:
#60-1331 MSRP $199.95
#60-1365 MSRP $399.95
I have an older one, 60-1331. It has traction tires, light bulbs, a bunch of rollers and couplers, and some misc parts.
I took advantage of a special sale offer from one of our fine Forum sponsors last week and ordered and received the #60-1331 MTH Maintenance Kit.
My roster of MTH locomotives has really grown over the past several years, and it seems that I'm always doing some sort of maintenance work and associated parts ordering.
IMO, this particular kit contains a very comprehensive array of the spare parts...see below. Even if MTH's claim that it contains over $1,100 worth of parts is overstated or exaggerated, I paid $268 with free shipping, so it still seems like a tremendous value to me!!

The one he has is #60-1365, and what I'm wondering is what the #60-1365 kit has that the #60-1331 doesn't have? Does the #60-1365 kit, the new one, have Proto2 parts not found in the #60-1331 Proto kit?
What's the difference between the two maintenance kits?
The more expensive kit has a bunch of wiring, speakers & gaskets, etc. Also, it has a bunch of screws, useful if you can't find the right screw.

I've never seen the more expensive one, but from the listing on the MTH site, that's what appears to be different. I'm guessing the box is bigger as well.
May I ask who the forum sponsor was whom you purchased you kit?

Why not simply post it, is it some kind of secret?
