I may have to pull the trigger on this one, which is liveried in the attractive 1980's METRA scheme. I also include miscellaneous shots of the rest of the display, which included the prototype of the UP's 1943 military unit, which is also really cool. There are other threads about that.

I noticed that engine too in a video by Train World interviewing MTH. This is basically at the top of my buy-list if I can fit it in my budget.
Do you know if they actually produced real "B" units on these, would seem over excessive for a commuter train. I know MTH made them to match, but I'm not sure if they were made for flavor or realism.

Nope, Metra didn't have any E8/9 B units. However, a pair of A units were occasionally run elephant style as protection power. The practice continues with the F40's.
Rusty
Thanks folks, I thought as much. Will probably just get 1 powered A on this one, maybe an unpowered A.
I missed that engine in all the confusion at the booth. Really good looking, may have to have one of those.

I'm with Art, I completely missed that as well and I was standing right there!
Sure would be nice if MTH, or ANYBODY, would offer correct bi-level commute passenger cars for the Burlington portion of the METRA system. Those fluted stainless steel sided bi-level cars are beautiful, and even go back to the late steam era on the Burlington. Thus, those commute cars could be hauled by a Burlington Hudson, Burlington E Units (stainless steel sides with either black front stripes to red front stripes), BN E-Units in various liveries, METRA E Units, or METRA F40PH units.
Have the last BN bilevels on Metra been stenciled Burlington in the original font?
I'm just grateful that MTH manufactures smaller local RR engines, and color schemes to begin with. Seeing an E-8 Metra in the catalog was honestly the last thing I ever thought they would make.

Yes, there are a number of bi-leves on the Burlington commute line, that have been "restored" to their original "BURLINGTON" Zephyr font letter board, plus some additional "BURLINGTON NORTHERN" lettering.
fluted sides would be nice; I'd 3D print them but I dont have precise dimensions.

Simply visit any station on the Burlington METRA line, and photograph/measure the car side fluting.
