Hello,

Does anyone know if an MTH N&W J premier would handle an 048 curve? I know the box says 054, but I have several other engines that say minimum 054 that handle 048 just fine.

All I can suggest is for you to try it. Typically it's the switches that are the problem. If you're dealing with 048 sectional curves, "maybe".

The limitation could be the pilot or trailing truck. If one of them is the problem, tweaking the swing is not that big of a deal. If the drivers are climbing the flange, game over.
