in inches how many inches is a half circle of mth O/72 curve track

I'm assuming you mean the circumference, i.e., the distance around the half circle.
Circumference equals 2 pi r.
O-72 has a centerline diameter of 72 inches or a 36 inch radius, so the circumference of the entire circle would be 2 X 3.14 X 36 equaling 226.08 inches, so the distance around a half circle would be 113.04 inches, along the centerline.
I suspect he's interested in the overall width of o72 track at its widest point. Since he didn't say which track, assuming it is MTH RealTrax, it would be 75.5"
That may not be precisely correct if speaking of MTH Realtrax. Realtrax O31 has a diameter of 31 inches at the point where the ballast slope starts:
and a center-rail to center-rail diameter of 28 ⅝ inches:
If MTH is consistent, which I would expect, then O72 Realtrax will have a center-rail to center-rail ("centerline") diameter of 69 ⅝ inches.
I don't know but I have been told the pie is no longer 3.1416... in school because that is too difficult for the kids to calculate. It is now '3'. Therefore the measurement you are looking for depends on how old the person is doing the calculation.
Its to complicated for me, just give me peach or apple or key lime or French chocolate silk and I'll be happy as a lark. LOL.
