Ok tried it must be doing something wrong.

I made sure the the helicopter meshes with the platform.  Using the lionel transformer at about 12 volts it revs up but comes flying off the platform before I even get a chance to release the unload/uncouple button.

Is this supposed to firmly lock into the platform before launch?  Mine sits but does not feel like it locks in, just merely sitting on the platform.

Thanks sorry for being a pest.

Is this an AC/DC issue raised in an older post on this car??

George

I don't have mine out, but I believe the only "lock" is the mesh of the driving cog and the chopper.  When you stop the drive motor by releasing the button, the inertia of the blades unlocks it from the cog and it flies.

Check and make sure it's fully engaged when you start it up, if the cogs aren't holding it, it'll fly as soon as it develops lift.

Some of the MTH helicopter cars work very well and will send the copter

up 10-15 feet and others will just fall off the car. There is friction between the drive in the car and the copter drive that holds the copter in place until the power is

removed from the car motor. As the car motor slows down and the copter rotor keeps spinning, the friction is released and the copter goes up. The friction release and

rotor speed is very critical for good operation. If the copter does not work than

a little silicone on the drive may make it work better.

ElectricRR makes a board to control the helicopter car. There is a time control for the

motor power so the copter will not hit a low roof.

I just received one today. I have to push mine down enough so the skids on the copter are wedged between two line on car. Then it stays in place and runs rotor till you let go of button. The higher the voltage the faster it turns and higher in flies. I will try to attach video or picture.  Of course I see now this was old post but a new toy for me. Enjoy!
