Depending on the era and the engine it could be both ways. I think when they were built new and green they were originally on top but then I know there's a painting of one of them centered. After they were rebuilt and blue most of them were centered. Either way, I think every single one of these Pacifics looks incredible and if I could I would get them all!

So far my blue B&O arrived #5307 the ex-President Harrison who I happen to be related to. The President Washington and the Nickel Plate Road 162 are on the way.

We are down to just one of the B&O in blue.... MTH is sold out already.....

i also received documentation on the gray NYC Pacific plus photos of it at the Big Four shops just SE of Indianapolis. They called it battleship gray. Pretty awesome. 

The Reading & Northern have been very popular. Just 2 of each left. I only have one more USArmy.

+1.   Great pictures. Also helpful was the 1927 date of the photo. Hopefully someone more familiar can offer some information on the passenger cars the CCC&StL Pacific may have pulled. Were they just the typical Pullman green heavyweights or was a set of cars painted to match?

Picked up my R&N 425 at my LHS yesterday. It had come in about 2 weeks ago but I've been quite under the weather.  Here she is on the store layout getting her preacceptance run. 

When I opened the box and unwrapped the tender the deck plate dropped to the floor apparently not glued down. Just goes to show the folks who bemoan about Lionel QC that all manufacturers have issues.

That's because there's really just ONE Chinese factory that makes all these toy trains.  And whenever the importers visit China, the factory just flies a different flag outside to welcome said executives!!!      Or so it would seem...

Actually, that wasn’t far from the truth back in the days of the Sanda Kan factory. Lionel, Atlas, K-Line and an estimated 50 other model train companies globally did business with the factory prior to 2010. That changed when Kader, Bachmann’s parent company, bought Kader in November 2008 and sent companies scrambling to find manufacturing partners elsewhere in China less than two years later. They remain scattered today.

You're welcome! As to your second question, it would have hauled standard NYC Pullman Green coaches of the era. The grey only got as far as that one engine 6467. One has to wonder if anyone remembered 6467's one-time paint scheme when they were developing the Dreyfuss 20th Century Limited in the late 1930's...

My NYC CCC&StL Pacific arrived from Mr Muffin's today after touring the US. According to tracking it covered about 3,400 miles or about 2,700 more than required. Thank you Steve and Jeff. Its all good.

Anyway the color is striking in person and runs fine. I already put a shorter drawbar on it and tried a few different cars to see if any would match. None do so I will probably just run it with pullman green heavyweights.

Cars in order are a K-Line 1938 20th Century, K-Line Pacemaker, and MTH green NYC Baggage car.

Thanks Mr. Muffin for the great photos. Do you know of any color photos of real steam engines, that may exist, where you can see the bright orange color on the top side like MTH used on the cab roof and tender top of the Cresent Limited? Earlier MTH steam trains that were Proto 1 had more of a Rust-Oleum Rusty Metal Primer color on top. Just wondering which is more prototypical? I posted this question in the past but never got a response. Thought maybe a dealer like you may have been hit with this question from customers.

A friend of mine ordered the Railking version of the 6467. Railking or Premier, it really is a beautiful model. I'll take some photos of the Railking version and post them on here when he gets it home.

Exceptionally nice MTH Southern Ps-4 engine with the crescent on the cylinder, but Mike who knows better, continues to issue them with incorrect red cab roof. He shipped me #1396 MTH's first Crescent Limited Ps-4 with the correct green roof after I did some research for him, working with Mark Hipp his brother in law ( Ps-4 located top right below with the too long T/A Studios TMCC upgrade engine tender connection wires). I still have the outer shipping carton marked "green roof" with a Sharpie. No MTH or Lionel red roofed Ps-4s in my stable

Another bogus locomotive from MTH.  The new pacifics are basically USRA heavy pacifics  dressed up to sell to non-suspecting B&O fans.  The real P-7 were built by Baldwin in 1920's and like just about every Baldwin built pacific had the headlight on top of the boiler.  As far as i know the B&O didn't have any USRA heavy pacifics.  Here is the real President Washington # 5300.

This is shameful MTH.  You'll do anything to take people's money.  You could have built ACCURATE , scale models of the real loco but instead you run this game on model train consumers.

The one Pacific locomotive I would love Lionel or MTH to make is an accurate, scale model of the New Haven I-4 class 4-6-2 Pacific. The I-4 to the New Haven was what the K4 to the Pennsylvania. It has only been done as a brass piece never die cast. If anyone from Lionel or MTH is reading this please consider this locomotive. Being a New Haven fan this would be one I'd definitely order. 

The New Haven paired the engines with both Standard and Vanderbilt tenders.

HO scale brass model from Precision Scale.
