I like both of them for different reasons.

I lie the MTH announcements because they are railroad specific and I enjoy some of the towns that the announcements mention.

I like the Lionel because of the coordination between engine announcements and diner arrival and departure announcements plus the "diner is served" and "tickets please" and "next stop coming up" as well as many others while the train is running.  They are a lot of fun but one per layout seems to be enough.

Happy railroading,

Don

Thanks guys!

I am glad I asked, as Don makes a good point I did not know about, i.e. one per layout is enough.

I thought they were like MTH, i.e. specific to each train because I thought I heard one say "20th Century Limited".

I purchased a Lionel TX Special Railsounds Diner and a Santa Fe one too.

I guess that was a waste of money to buy two?

No, I think that you will be pleased with both. I have several and really love them. They should be included, as they were before, on all of their premium passenger train sets.

Chipset, you are remembering correctly. The Lionel Station Sounds cars do have train-specific announcements and character voices with regionally appropriate accents. I won't comment as to the recommended number of station sounds cars per layout (grin) but I will say each one is different!
