After losing another PS 2 5v board last weekend I stumbled across a picture of one that blew last year. I am wondering how many of you have some more pictures and what caused the failures?
The one last weekend was probably my fault. I didn't let it charge before trying to use the locomotive. However thisone had been running on on a loop for at least an hour when it exploded. Sounded like a firecracker went off. What happened?

Do a search this has been discussed at nauseam. Bad cap, other fault on board blows cap. These older 5V either run fine, or they die without "definitive" known cause. Can be upgrade to PS-32. G
That cap is the one I've seen bulge or blow most often. If you can find pieces of the plastic wrap, I'd bet money that it's the Wincap brand.
G did a search last week, added on to a post that rehashed some dudes litigation threat, didn't want to bring that back up so I started new.
Ya john thats the same cap that quit on my fef in the afore mentioned post, not quite spectacularly as the pictured one though. Don't recall many complaints of locomotive blowing up while running. Seemed like most were results of battery condition problems. Any opinions on best outlet for ps32 boards?
Last time I checked, only MTH techs could order the upgrade kit to replace the 5V board set. I don't know if that's changed recently.
