I was having intermittent issues with this engine:  at one particular spot on my layout it would short out  the block it was on.  it also would intermittently stop chuffing.  I fixed the short issue...simply by switching fastback sections, then it ran perfectly for about 15 minutes; chuff and all.  However, the DCS remote would not recognize the engine, but my iPhone ran it w/o issue.  Soooo, I replaced the batteries in my remote, powered up the layout and the remote. When I looked at the remote it was displaying an engine not on the track, but on my shelf, and when I hit start up the J started up and responded to the commands as if it was the shelf engine.  Next I powered everything down  and powered it up and although the j was listed in my engines on the remote it was "inactive."  I tried repeatedly to active it, but the remote's read function found the TIU but reported the J not on the track.  I turned to the iPhone and it was listed in my inactive engines but I could not activate it.  I then placed another of my  MTH engines on the track behind the J and it was fine and the track signal was between 8-10.  I then turned on another block on the layout and another MTH engine was found with the remote's read function as well  as with the iPhone.  I then cleaned the wheels on the J and tender...put it back on the track....no joy.  I'm stumped. If there is something else I can do/should do before I send it for repairs, please advise.  I checked the DCS Companion 3, no help.  Thanks.

Happy New Year everyone!
