I'm curious about the minimum radius requirements for the Hi Rail MTH PT hudson. I see conflicting numbers on these, sometimes o-72 others o-42.

The latest catalog says o-42 but I want to be sure thats not an error/confusion with the standard tender.

If it indeed is o-72, any chance it would negotitae o-60 fastrack? These locos look great, I'm suprised there or no videos I can find of the previous releases.

Thanks in advance!

I have 2 of these with the PT tender. A J-1e which is still in the box and a Dreyfuss from 2006. I have always run the Dreyfuss on 072 curves. Not only is there an issue with the tender, it also has near scale pilot wheels, which I think would cause clearance issues on curves sharper than 072. This is the reason the original Lionel scale Hudson with the optional scale pilot wheels require 072 curves.

I also noticed that the Lionel ESE Hudson with the PT tender in the 2015 catalog states it requires 072 curves.

I'm sure 042, especially with the PT tender is a misprint. As far as 060, it would be iffy at best.

Thanks guys! Well I decided to email MTH for clarification.I was told that the PT hudson is "slated" to run o42 cuves.

Thinking she may just be reading the catalog description I'm not totally convinced.

Again, I'm only asking if it will negotiate o-60 fastrack, anyone else with one of the previous "hi rail" pt hudsons have any input?

Yeah, the PT tender is a pain. Gorgeous, but a pain.

I have:

Lionel PT - on a Niagara and a Hudson; so-so tracking; not great. 060 is definitely out; some 072 (mine) can be awkward; backing up...? Well, be careful.

MTH PT - on a Niagara; worse than Lionel. Partly my track work, but not entirely; see below.

Williams/Samhongsa brass - Niagara; by far the most stable of the three; nearly as

agile as a 12-wheel Hudson tender; back and forth, switches too; the rigid-wheelbase

axles simply move side-to-side more than the other two, especially MTH.

Most of this PT issue could be resolved with blind wheels on the 3 center axles, I think.

The Locomotive has blind middle drivers; why not the tender?
