Hello, I just got the R21 redbird set off of an ebay vendor, but when i put it on the tracks it just powers up. No head lights, no sounds, nothing. the ambient light turns on but the train doesn't seem to really "activate" I took it apart and checked the battery and replaced it with a Duracell just to see if it would fix the issue temporarly but it did not. Has any one ever ran into this issue? This is the 2002 (2004?) set i believe, and still uses the Protosound 2 kit. I tried to see the board but it looked fine to me.

The item number is

that set uses a five volt board which fail quite often. have you check the battery if it has a white battery you should have never powered it up bad battery can blow the board! also look at capacitors probably bulging !

here Is the pdf file about cars from mth web sight! first check and or replace the battery then power up do you hear a relay click if not board is DEAD

Redbird had a high failure rate of the PS-2 5V Board.  So it needs to be repaired with a PS-32 5V board or upgrade it with a PS-3 kit.

George, I asked Jason if they had the code for the PS32 board for operating pans on electric locomotives and he said it wasn't released yet.  Is the code for the subway available now?

Yes they are.  When did you last talk to him??  The GG-1 has been out for a while, small smoke, trolley.  All those Flash files have been sent via a tech update.  G

I got that answer on 10-29.  I asked...

Has the firmware been released for the PS32 board to support locomotives like the E-2 Bi-Polar Electric?
I have one with a cooked 5V board, what are my replacement options?

His reply...

Do you mean for the electrically operating pantographs? At this point in time, no, the light line
controlled pantographs firmware does not exist. I can ask the software developer to put it in there but it may be a month or so before he can do it.

I'm not sure how I could misinterpret that answer!

Which service bulletin did it come with?  Is it downloadable in from the MTH site?

I haven't gotten the E2 yet as I told him to hold off until I found out if I could actually fix it.  It has a cooked board, so I need to have the proper firmware to get it going.  Without any diagrams, no way to know what's in it until I get it unless someone has already looked and knows what smoke unit it has.  I'm guessing it may have the small smoke as it's only used occasionally.

George, where are all these files?  Are they all incorporated in the standard load?  I didn't get any service bulletin about this in Sept, I think I need to ping MTH and find out why we're not getting them!
