I purchased on eBay an MTH Railking NYC GP-9 -30-4188-1E. I noticed that the engine sounds are distorted. Could this mean that the speaker needs replaced. Is this something that I can do myself or do I need to take to a service expert? What is the procedure to replace a speaker? Can I purchase a new speaker from MTH. Thanks, Bo.

That's a PS2 3V model. Any 60mm 4ohm, 3 watt speaker should work as a replacement. You'll have to remove the shell and fuel tank, remove the speaker from the fuel tank, unsolder the wires from the speaker, solder the wires to the new speaker, and put everything back together.
How are you running the locomotive? If you're running it conventionally then see if charging the battery helps restore the sounds. The battery could be dead, causing the garbled sounds.

Tough fit for a 60mm speaker, try 50mm.
Ok. Thanks.

I meant 50mm. Typing quickly on a mobile device will do that .
