Maybe you folks can help me with this.

I have 8 out of 9 RealTrax switches, which over time, do the following:

After the first truck of the lead engine passes the frog, but before the 2nd truck of the lead engine gets to the frog, the switch changes on its own.

I would like to fix these as opposed to trashing them, for as you know they are expensive.

Any ideas on how to fix?

Thanks.

Well, I took all of these turn outs and tested them on the hard wood, smooth and level surface of our kitchen table.

All worked fine except one!

This tells me that something on the layout itself was causing the issue, i.e. a bad track, uneven surface, debris, short from a pin underneath or screw...I dont know.

But this is great that all but one tested good.

I had this same problem , make sure the two inside rails of the turn out have a gap between them and the track connected to them. The rails I am talking about do not have any copper contacts attached to them. I usually take a dremel tool with a cut off wheel on it and grind the end of the rail short to create a bigger gap between the rails on the connecting track.

Got them back on the layout and they work fine, except when I placed 2 turn outs next to each other, seemed the leading and trailing trucks were creating a short when each truck was on a piece of each seperate turn out at the same time.

So I added a short length of track between the two and its fine now.

Saved a ton of money fixing these myself.
