I have the protosound version, with a bad sound board.

but  your case I think the reverse board may have a bad light controller.

You could add a second reverse board for just the lights or run lights off the motor with diodes so they change when the motor reverses.

Maybe from below pics you could describe more?

Also can you tap into the white connection above the blue one that operates the rear lights or is that a no no?

Basic DCRU.  So the white connector looks like an LED driver for markers in the shell??  The output for directional lights is about 1.2V.  The bulbs are 1.5V bulbs for DCRU/PS-1.  Did you get PS-1 1.5V bulbs or did you get 6V or 18V bulbs, those won't light up on that output.  G

The funny thing is I reversed the connections and it worked. Go figure
