Anyone try to match the silver paint that MTH uses on it's NYC, RI, etc. streamlined passenger cars? I'm contemplating re-decaling a couple of cars and may have to do a touch-up job.
Thanks for any info.

I wish you all the luck in the world with touching up silver paint MTH's or anyone else's for that matter . To get it to look right most of the time you have to repaint the whole thing.
I don't know exactly the color of paint they use but an Argent Silver would be a pretty good match I would think.
So you don't get swirl several light coats are best.

Silver paint is nearly impossible to match, even if it is the same shade because the metallic flake in the paint wont lay the same as it did when it was sprayed the first time.
If its some place obvious, respray the whole thing. If its somewhere non-obvious you might want to try touching it up first, and use a lighter shade of silver than the car already is. If the re-touch dries darker, it'll stand out like a sore thumb.
I was afraid that might be the case. I plan on changing road names on the MTH passenger cars... I'm concerned the process might remove some of the silver paint on the road ID board.
Guess an alternative might be to leave the current road on; and make a new ID board with the new road name...then use a couple of "dabs" of silicone glue to mount it over the old road name. That way I can easly remove it if I mess-up!
Testors makes a product called "Easy Lift Off".
Depending on how the lettering was applied, you might be able to just remove the lettering and save the paint (apply ELO and let it sit for just a short amount of time, then rub off, repeat until you succeed). I think another company also makes a similar product, I just cant remember who. Anyways, give it a try, its definitely safer than trying to sand the lettering off or something like that.
If you have to just repaint the boards, I dont think it would be a big deal if they were slightly off. Because they protrude from the car, the light is probably going to hit it a little differently anyways and it may not look the same no matter what. I think you can probably get away with painting them (provided you paint them entirely and cleanly).
I thought you were trying to fix a scratch in the car.
Rocky,
I've been wanting to convert a set of MTH Railking Santa Fe red stripe streamliners to NYC Empire State Express for years but still haven't gotten up the courage to repaint the red band that runs the entire length at the window line. I've silver paint, aluminum paint and I believe I've even got stainless steel and still don't think I've got anything close. Please let us know how it works out for you.
