MTH Standard Gauge 0-42 Switch Problem

What are the MTH item numbers?

I do know one thing - if you put some lube under the dimples of the part that slides on the base it certainly frees up movement. Oil the pivot points. Accessory power is a must -at least 14v.

I became resigned to the fact that if you start picking the rail that should be touching that gently shaping the stamping towards the rail would be needed.

It's late in the game, but most have gone to Ross Custom Switches with LGB motors.

Another option is the 72 switches with a half curve - better mechanism.

If you like the look of the O42, they will just take some tuning.

I would say wait to see if you have derailments before spending time on them.

I know Ross Switches are the way to go.  I just have a very small layout no O-72 curves.

I guess I'll see if derailments are a problem as I get the layout going.

Joe,

Using large diameter switches on a small table is only a problem when the thru length of the switch is long, like with O. The MTH STD switches are the same length.

You get smoother transitions even if you then tighten it immediately with a 42 half curve.

You can have the 42's working well with accessory and tuning.

Here's an example of 72's on top of 42's. It takes about 5.5" more length to make a 90° and is about 3.5" wider to make a 45°
