I haven’t bought an MTH premier steam engine in many years so my reference is likely incorrect. But I was surprised to see this on the side of the box.
Have any of the other recent streamers come out of Korea? Or is this one an anomaly?

What year was it produced? Do you have the MTH 20- ***** item number which should tell us when?
This engine is brand new. This is the LED Christmas light version of the 4449. This is why I was so surprised to the the “made in Korea” stamp
20-3758-1
Probably just using up some old boxes.
Just kidding...
AFAIK MTH has always maintained a presence in Korea. Mike mentioned having to go to Korea during the Trainworld skype special a few months ago.

Premier steam in Korea if I remember correctly. China does the other stuff. G
I just purchased MTH Premier set 20-3554-1 catalog 2014 delivered June 2015 and it was manufactured in South Korea.
If they start manufacturing them in North Korea, I'd skip those and wait for the Chinese ones.
But GRJ, if made in North Korea, they'd probably have additional unadvertised electronics, so you'd get more for your money.
My recent production PRR Y3 2-8-8-2 was made in South Korea.
(I have it for sale as I decided to purchase new Legacy PRR steam to double head with my CC2.)
I had emailed MTH and they verified it was made in South Korea.
Thanks for all the information. I had incorrectly assumed that all MTH die cast production had moved to china. I appreciate the education that has been provided here.

Only the "Glow In The Dark" engines are made in NK.
