I just received a email from MTH stating they have a kit to fix the problem and will be sending it out when they receive your address.  Kirstin seems to be the contact at MTH.

The package came today but the fix will have to wait beings I am moving in about 3 weeks.

Please post your fixes when you have them installed And if you had any problems.

Yes.  I just replied to the email and gave them my shipping address.  I am glad it is a do it yourself kit.  I don't like shipping engines.

"Good morning.  MTH now has a kit to repair the issue with the smoke on the Veranda Turbine.  If you could provide your full shipping address we can have the kit and instructions sent to you.

Thank you,

I installed my kit Thurs - BUT - the piece of clear plastic that closes off 80% of the smoke outlet screen was not included in the kit.  Take a piece of flat plastic that enclose items you buy at the store - you know the plastic packaging that you cannot open and cut a rectangle that covers the front 80% of the outlet screen, you will see a line of small plastic nubs toward the back of the smoke opening, cut the plastic piece just behind the row.  Drill small holes in the plastic so the plastic fits against the screen.  Pull the smoke deflector off or put the smoke fluid in the very rear when putting smoke fluid in the engine.

Did the Proto 1 version of the Veranda have this?  I don't recall.  What does this plastic rectangle do?  Does it direct the smoke plume somehow and provide body to the smoke plume?  Your instructions still not clear.  How does the plastic screen stay in place?

ptalar My Proto2 Propane Turbin had the clear plastic piece that blocked most of the outlet.  This greatly reduces the area that the smoke can flow thru so increases velocity.  The smoke looks like it is comming out of the whole area of the exhaust "stack".  If you did not use the plastic the smoke would look like it was just drifting out of the engine.  The metal screen and plastic piece are held in place by the small round pegs moulded in the bottom of the exhaust stack - which is a separate piece that snaps to the body shell.  You mark the plastic with the peg pattern and drill small holes.  The metal screen and plastic piece are pressed over the holes.  I used a little plastic glue to hold the pieces in place.  Looking at the bottom of the separate smoke stack, when removed from the engine, the plastic piece closes off the width and most of the stack starting from the front.  Extend the plastic piece to the rear of the rear row of round pegs.  With the Propane engine I drilled out the air inlet to the ID of the smoke unite fan.  I had to change the fan rotation to clockwise looking at the top of the fan.  In both engines I drilled out the black plastic rectangular piece that transfer the smoke from the smoke unite to the exhause outlet so just a small wall sealed to the smoke unit outlet.
