While operating in conventional mode I pushed the whistle once with five bell button pushes to produce the 2 horn blasts to verify the Z-4000 factory reset to fix headlight and the other number boards functionality with no success.  What is my next recourse to test the headlight and the other number board light?

If only one board is lit, I would remove the body and make sure a wire hasn't become disconnected or the bulb or LED hasn't slipped out of its location.  The fact that one board and not the other is lit makes me think problem is in the wiring to the bulbs/LEDs.

If loco is still under warranty and you're uncomfortable opening it up, call MTH tech support for warranty service.

Thank you for the replies RJR.  Could I unplug the headlight and test it in the back headlight socket?  The MTH website for this engine does not have the parts schematic available at this time. Can I assume the front and back headlight are the same part number?

Wasn't the headlight lit in your video?    The answer to your question is probably, but I won't give a definite answer.  If I want to test a bulb or LED, I unplug it and use a 1.2 or 1.5 volt battery, trying both polarities.

No, just the one number board lights which gives off light that the headlight bulb picks up and reflects.  I'll check the connections first.  Thank you again    Everything worked at one time as illustrated in this other YouTube video.

I took a photo of what appears to be the number board LED set I unscrewed from the inside top.

The second picture shows the modular connections with black and red wires leading up to the cabs headlight, number boards, and green marker lights.   Any other suggestions would be appreciated.

That loose Red or orange wire broke off the LED at the bottom with only the black wire attached.  Resolder and he

Good eye George!

These eyes are getting older

So before I take it apart, It looks like the loose orange wire is pointing at the second windshield wiper on the left side of the cab and it should be attached to lower part of the number board LED set in the top picture, correct?

Also, will this complete the circuit in any way for the headlight to operate as well?  Can I test the front headlight harness by unplugging it and putting it in the back headlight harness in this locomotive?

Thank you again for your help.       Chas
