I noticed this (http://www.mthtrains.com/content/40-4001) is listed in there recent catalog does anybody know a release date? I thought it was supposed to be in Nov. I run my trains in conventional mode and can't wait to get one of these.

If you click the show button it lists all the dealers that have it on order, a call to one of them with your order or MTH maybe?
I think MTH decided not to produce this. Too bad. Its a great way for those of us who don't use DCS or TMCC to have a hand held throttle. Check E-Bay; there are often used ones on it.

The receiver is needed so you can also control your Z4k with the DCS remote and over ride the side levers but the receiver does tax your voltage output
Fred,

They are being manufactured one last time, using the available remaining parts. After the upcoming run, they will be discontinued.
Possibly, MTH may manufacture a replacement product.

Exactly how does the receiver "tax your voltage"?
It requires power and if you have one compare the train speed when using the conventional levers and track power using a remote and receiver while running a conventional train or trains. I run 2 passenger trains each pulling 9 and 10 cars with a Premiere Steam on each with no problems but I do use a old Lionel KW for layout lighting.

OK, whatever. Any power requirement for the receiver would be minimal, on the order of half an amp, if it even uses track power at all.
I've been running 3 Z4K's with DCS for 7+ years, each with a receiver, and have never encountered any kind of a "voltage tax". Further, I have to exceed 10 amps before the Z4K receiver cuts off power.
