Hello,

I am in the market for a MTH Z4000 transformer, trying to pickup a used one.  What are the best years to look for or serial number run’s?  I know there has been issues with this transformer in the past, just want it to use for some of my MTH engines/ Program.

Thank you

Frank M

There are two varients to look for which can be identified by the serial number. The first run of the Z4000 has a serial number that begins with 0398 (manufactured in March 1998). All subsequent runs of the Z4000 have had some minor improvements and are probably the versions you are looking for. This all being said, I have a first run Z4000 on my dad's layout which has worked flawlessly for 25 years.
