I had the day off today so I got around to finishing up this old JLC Challenger. I upgraded the chuffing and smoke with some GRJ parts. The thread can be seen here:

I then hung a Kadee on the tender and weathered it today:

"She's a beaut, Clark!!"  Job well done.

Growing up reading Model Railroader before the days of CTT, I thought I'd model the steam to diesel transition period where I live in Northeastern Ohio.

Now that I'm grown up, I run....whatever I want, whenever want.  Run whatever makes you happy.   Why not run a totally cool UP Challenger through PA?

Live in the now.....and cherish the moment.

I belong to a club in Southern Cal. You see UP, ATSF, WP, and so forth. I explain my PRR/B&O/N&W/RDG/C&O equipment as being lost or drastically rerouted

Yes, definitely VERY nice. Now, one last touch would be to unplug the green class lights, or replace the green with white.

Did the in service Challengers have white class lights?  All my books are black and white with no color, so impossible to tell.

Were other in service classes of UP steam also white?

Appreciate the info.

All class lights, from various manufactures, had three colors available, i.e. White, Green, and red. By simply flipping a small lever on the side of the class light, a green or red lease was then placed behind the "white", or clear lens. Thus, to answer your question directly, most UP steam power carried "white" class lights, unless they were backing up as light engine, or assigned to passenger service as a second train )green for second section following).
