Hi All,

Over the past weekend, I mostly finished making a new end to a Santa Fe High-Level Coach to make it into an end of train Transition Coach to finish off my El Capitan passenger consist.  I got an extra coach and purchased an extra Body End with Diaphragm (Lionel Part Number 6105386008) so I would have an original as a spare.

I then saw the door was a separate piece which allowed me to grind the plastic holders and take out the door.

I then dremmeled out the rest of the frame so I could move the door down.  I glued it in place and then made a cover for the hole above the door with styrene.  I used black electrical tape to put a "back wall" on the upper coach section.  Next I drilled a small hole and put one of the red marker end lights in the hole and taped the second one up so it wouldn't shine.  I purchased an El Capitan Conquistador drumhead from Tomar Industries (#108) and installed it.  Lastly, I grinded down the existing two marker light holes so they were flush and covered them with two "boxes" that I also made from styrene.  I also re-glued the diaphragm around the door.  I still have to put the conduit the real version had, but that is all.

As a note, I used Tamiya Silver Leaf paint which was a match for the Body End.

I am really happy with the results:

Here is the picture I based mine off of:

This is the third one I have done.  The first is the front transition car which I just moved the diaphragm on (no door lowering).  The second was made from an undecorated MTH Amtrak car (I have since replaced the diaphragms with Lionel ones to match the rest of the cars):

Here is a video of my consist I took several years ago.  I have since replaced the front MTH baggage with a second Lionel 18" one and of course replaced the last Transition Coach.

Lastly, I know finding individual cars is hard, but I do have 3 extra of the Lionel Coaches and the MTH one I made above if anyone is interested.

There is a Santa Fe high level coach sitting at the KC Mo depot along with what looks like a F7 or 9 in warbonnet paint.

I have a set of Amtrak Superliners by Williams......love to have a set of AT&SF cars like I rode in 1960.

I too love my set.  I do have the extra 3 coaches and the Rev 01 Transition Car if you want to make a deal to get your AT&SF set started.
