I recently got my locomotive back from getting its soundboard replaced, Once I got it back it ran and worked good but now Ive started having an on and off issue where the sound thinks the engine is in conventional when its in Legacy operation, I was using a post-war ZW280 to power my track but I swapped to my CW80 thinking maybe it had something to do with that. I have my legacy system hooked up to the outside rail (Per as the instruction book says) I've tried reprograming it, flipping transformer to track wiring, restarting the legacy system, playing with settings for the engine, updating my base and cab 2 and another thing I forgot. When I let it sit for awhile it usally works again for awhile until the issue comes back. This is super annoying and this is my first engine. Its Lionel number is 6-39566, Thanks in advance for anyone who can help I love this engine alot and I just wanted to run it with all its features it was made with.

Well, since this is a Legacy with the RCMC, the choices are limited as to the issue. It's either the RCMC, the RS-Lite board, or the cable between them. That's really the only things that would cause this issue. What's happening is you're losing the serial data to the RS-Lite board. There's no "fix" that doesn't involve taking it apart I'm afraid.
Jaydon,
I am not sure what you mean by saying you turn the Legacy on and off so let me tell you what I would do. First of all your old ZW should be fine to use. Plug both the ZW and the Legacy power plug into a power strip that has a ground plug (3 prong). Since the ZW is an older model you may need to reverse the plug if the Legacy is having issues. When you turn the power strip on the Legacy will start up right away. Place your engine on the track. Move the power handle of the ZW to 18 volts. The engine should remain silent until you address it using Eng XX. You can start the engine by using the start key or do what I do blow the horn. If you use the transformers direction button it should have no effect on the engine. It will only move if your Cab2 is used (also make sure your Cab 2 is turned on (CTC button).
If your engine moves using the transformer’s direction switch your Legacy plug wire maybe bad. Is your Legacy base’s lights on? Or your base maybe broken. Lionel will fix either the base of the Cab2 if they can for free with parts availability being the issue. Let us know how you make out.

All the lights work, just the sound, sometimes it works sometimes it doesn't, I just had the Soundboard replaced by a shop becuase it got fried by a stupid mistake (9v plug touching the frame right after having a battery on it) I think GunrunnerJohn might be right on what he says which makes me feel sick becuase I just paid over 300 bucks to get the board fixed and im too scared to take the engine apart myself..
I was hoping it wasnt a board issue..
