Good morning everyone. I would like to announce that my little railroad empire now has it's very own website.

www.solidrockrailroad.webs.com

A GREAT BIG THANKS goes out to Alan Arnold (leavingtracks here on the forum) for creating this site for me. Alan worked thru my thick head to create this website. Also, most of the pictures on the site are provided by him. If you are thinking of having a website for you railroad, I would suggest that you contact Alan.

Please go to our website look it over and let me know and post what you think of our site.

And once again, thanks to leavingtracks for doing this for me and my little railroad.

Roger,

Very nice site and a great layout.

BTW.  I spoke to Dorcie and they're planning on having another Layout Fest this year in September.  Don't think I'll be able to convince work to send me down to Dallas again but you never know!   I enjoyed meeting you, Allen and the rest of the folks there.

Now, I thought Allen and I had become friends as a resut of that day.  How do I get him to do a website for me!

Just contact Alan thru his e-mail which is posted on his profile. He goes by leavingtracks here on the forum. As you know he is a great guy and is very easy to work with. He took a dummy like me and made me and my layout look great. If any of you want a website, I would recommend you to contact leavingtracks -- in Mountain Home, AR, he is known by Alan Arnold.

Great to hear from you Chris and yes we are planning on going back down there the weekend of 9/14/13. I already have my rooms booked for this event and I will also be visiting them the last weekend of June. I know you do not want another Sandy storm, but maybe you could think of a great reason to check out your company's site there in Dallas. Hope to see you soon.

You MUST live within a few miles of Springfield. I have the measurements for this Quonset hut and during some down time and am trying to draw up the hut. Casper's has to have the best within a days drive of here. If you ever are close to us, or live close to us, contact me and you and I will go to Casper's. Don't forget, that they close down for the summer on May 16th.

.....now if I could just get Mega Steam to produce that Casper's chili smell.

Thanks to all of you for looking at Roger's site and also thanks for your compliments.

If this snow and cold keeps up, I think Casper's better stay open this summer.

We will need the Chili.

OK Grampstrains, I now realize that you are in my area if you have snow. Contact me thru my e-mail in my profile and I will buy you the bowl of Chili. But they do plan on closing on May 16th. Please contact me as I did not find your e-mail in your profile.

Roger

This must be the Casper's that you and Grampstrains are talking about. It would look great on the layout. Check out the link. Some interesting info and pictures. I will have to check this place out the next time I am in Springfield

Laidoffsick; Thanks for your compliments. Have you started on your roundhouse yet?

I want to thank everyone that has posted here on this item. I thank all of you for your compliments on my layout and my website.

I owe a lot to Vern Hart, who lives here in Springfield. He is the one that I met about 10 years ago and has given many hours to my dream layout with his wit and wisdom.Vern designed the  I gave him the nickname of "chi-cing".....you know like a cash register? Every time he has given me and idea, several $$$ later the idea comes true.

Also I owe a lot to Alan Arnold, without him the website would not exist. This man can make anything look GREAT on the web...which he did with my website.

To members of this forum, you have given me many ideas, answers to my stupid questions, and a lot of  technical info. I usually live on this forum this time of night.

Thanks again every one. All I can say is if you want a great track plan contact Vern Hart. If you want a great website contact forum member leavingtracks, Alan Arnold.

Wowzers!!!

Roger, you have designed and built an amazing layout and showcase it wonderfully on your website (nice job Alan!!). Thanks so much for sharing with us .

We're so excited to see you next month for our first Master Mountain Building Workshop! Next time we're driving to an event, we'll have to make sure our route takes us to your city so we can see up close and personal your amazing layout.

I've added your website  to my "favorites".

Happy Tracks,

Hello Roger,

I just took a peek at your website, great job! looks nice.

If I understand that this is your first website, I have some suggestions for a usability factor. The theme color is great, but using the theme color for text can pose a problem.

Color contrast is important when creating a website, for example 1 in 20 males suffer some sort of color blindness. Since our hobby is majority male you may want to reconsider the red text on white background.

websites should have a minimum contrast ratio of 4.5:1 for basic text (this does not count for headers or titles of the page). The red text on the white background contrast is 3.2:1.

what this means that some people will have a hard time reading the page (and of course all monitors do not display color the same way) . You can actually see a difference on a web page by using different browsers.

I hope I am not coming across in a negative way, I mean this to be constructive.

If you would like to check the contrast yourself you can visit

http://www.checkmycolours.com/

type in you web address and it will show you what passes and what does not.

Hope this helps.
