The temptation to purchase the Boys & Girls sets gets stronger every time I see something posted about them, especially pictures... I want the recent MTH O gauge reproductions, but the train budget is not up to the task just now.
Not that I need another temptation, but what is the red one from?
great shot. Looks like THE RED COMET....

Congratulations! 3 beautiful engines. There is something very appealing about the large almost oversized stature that reeks toy trains. Combine that with their color and you have a winning trio anyway you look at it.
Which one is the boy's? Hard to tell these days. Just kidding. My holy grail is an original 400e, black with copper trim, and runs like a vintage Cadillac. I don't think I could do that much pink. That's for girls. I think, or not. Have fun!
You can get a black MTH '400e' right now on a famous auction site that looks suspiciously like an Ives 1134. Seems like a once in a lifetime opportunity to have something that 'rare'.

I saw that one. I really like that style loco. Nicely sized. Have a few in Dorfan, Flyer & Ives trim.
SR,
Now that 400E Trio is just plain Awesome!

just have to say it,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,oh boy,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, anyway, love the red one,,,,more than I thought I would hummmmm
A colorful threesome of engines.
I have the Pink 384E set and really like it. A O-gauge Blue Comet. Still looking at the 1134 in Red on E-Bay. It would go with the Circus set. Better than the Black 1134 with Yellow nose that goes with the set.
Point is buy what you like and enjoy it.

Looks like one of the two listings recently dropped the price to something more reasonable.
If I had the red set, I'd have to have part of it black with the red, I always had the G-scale 1:24 Hartland Red with Black double motor engine to pull my mixed circus consist, it reminded me of the train in "Dumbo".
Hey sunrise
Outstanding I feel fortunate to have one of these engines I can't imagine having three of them well maybe I can!
Sunrise,
Now you will have to have a Gun Metal Gray one!

I have three 400E's. I love the Red Comet that Sunrise Special opened this thread with. I if were to buy another 400E I wouldn't know where I would put it I am out of space. Here is my trio of 400E's passing in review:

call me crazy, but i like to picture my black #400 as covered in soot, oil and grease rather than something that just rolled out of Barbie's dream castle backshop.
overlandflyer,
Negative. Each to his own.

Scott Smith is out of space ? Nah . . .
He's claiming that since I know him.

Yes I am out of space. I made the mistake of buying 2 scale ABBA E8's. Do you know how much shelf space that takes? I have added shelves, boxes and storage and at this point I am surprised that the ground hasn't sunk under the train room and the walls haven't collapsed.
