Oh, no, no, no.  It's still very geeky.  You're just realizing that she and everyone else understand!

That would be a difficult decision: do I want to be in the cab of a Big Boy going up the Wasatch Front, or on the bridge of the Starship Enterprise boldly going . . . "?

MartyE,

Yes, it is the set of Star Trek Phase II.  They have exactly the same number of square feet as the Desilu Studios had, and are recreating each set to the exact configuration they used back the 60's.

On a train note, there is a beautifully restored station just down the street in the heart of downtown Ticonderoga.  There are no tracks, but one can see the remnants of the right-of-way.  The current Ti train station on the CP (former D&H) is closer to the lake-shore on the main.  Was there a spur into Ticonderoga at one time?

Jon

Jon,

Sorry to say that I agree with Lee.  wearing your conductor's uniform doesn't make you less geeky compared to your wife's Trekkinees, it's just as geeky but in a different way.

Would have loved to have gone to that exhibit myself.  I'm still kicking myself for not attending the temporary one they did at the aerospace museum here in Balboa Park a few years back.

Well then I am a geek too. I admit it! I like Star Trek and seeing KOOLjock1's wife dressed up as Lieutenant Uhora is both hilarious and thrilling!

Now if only MTH or Lionel could license the Star Trek brand and develop a thematic train set based on the popular television series, I would be all set. It's about time one of the OGR train manuacturers went "where no one has gone before" by releasing a Star Trek train (even though I've never seen a train on Star Trek).

Beam me up Scotty!

(Yeah, I'm a geek alright)

That would make me depart from my rivet-counting and plunk down money for a set. There are several Trek properties that could be done -- TOS, TNG, DS9, Voyager, Enterprise, and Reboot. That doesn't even include TOS/TNG movie options, but the ones worth doing are 2, 3, 4, 6, and First Contact.

This is just too funny.  I have a place on the lake in Ferrisburgh VT, more or less right across from Ticonderoga... and I had NO idea this was going on.  Just followed the link and watched episode 8, "Kitumba".  And you're right.  The acting is as bad as the original, and the low-budget cardboard props are just as ridiculous.

In fact, it is delightfully faithful to the original series in every way - right down the the philosophical discussion between Kirk, Spock, and Bones at the end of the episode - but it's also shot through with little asides and winks at modern sensibilities, to let us know they're all in on the joke and don't take themselves too seriously.  These folks are having a tremendous amount of fun.

And the Klingon home world filmed at night at Fort Ticonderoga, site of the midnight raid by Ethan Allen and the Green Mountain Boys. There is some kind of intergalactic, time-warped poetic justice in that.  What a totally outrageous project.  This is the best entertainment I've viewed in some time.  Whoever is doing the writing for these is actually quite good.   Well done!

And Jon, as Scotty says in TNG 'Relics'; "I'll say this about your Enterprise... the doctors are a fair sight prettier!"
