The rear coupler on my K-line Pennsy slope back switch engine started opening by itself. I took the tender apart and found no "shorts" in the wiring to the rear coupler. Anybody have a similar problem?

Lots of people.
First step is to unplug the coupler and run, if it still opens, it's mechanical. If it doesn't open when disconnected, then you need to install a 1uf 50V non-polarized cap across the coupler connection, usually on the motherboard of the TMCC package.
