Does anybody know if this was a set offered at one time? I have not been able to find the caboose or loco by their numbers, the caboose number originally assigned to a PR porthole caboose.

The locomotive is missing the dynamic brake blister, which is a snap-on piece. Keep that in mind for pricing if someone is selling these items.

Which raises an interesting question: Why paint under the blister? Wasn't it SOP to paint GP9s with the blister in place?

Hadn't thought of that! The front stack does show what looks like red plastic under the blue paint...

At the very least, the whole shell may have been painted red first. Masking the sides would have been more difficult with the blister in place.
The catalog pic needs to be posted on the MPC thread: I had that B&O set, once upon a time, and most of the add-on cars, too.

Not really. Model production painting doesn't use tape. Paint masks are metal and conform to the body as needed.
