N scale question?

I don't know...are the arms activated by the train's "pressure" (mechanical) or is it an electrical system?

I don't own the Kato one, but from looking at pictures online I believe their system is designed so that the gate go up (from counterweights on the gate ends) and they go down via a wire or mechanical connection that runs down through the base. I assume a motor with linkages pulls them down, but can't confirm. Pictures might help.
