I am interested in obtaining the Norfolk Southern MTH heritage ES44AC with the red paint. When did the railroad run engines in that paint scheme?

1) Please edit your title. The railroad in question is the "NS", i.e. NOT "N&S".
2) The original Norfolk and Western had their passenger GP9 units delivered new from EMD (about 1959) painted red, in order to match their passenger equipment. Thus, one of the NS heritage units is decorated in the original Norfolk & Western styling/colors.

Jack, he's not talking about Norfolk & Western. He's talking about Norfolk Southern as you pointed out in your bullet #1.
Peter, for the prior (original?) Norfolk Southern which used the red paint scheme you reference, see:

OK, neither of above links work via clickable HTML, so copy and paste the line above.

Stu, Jack knows which railroad Peter was inquiring about. He was merely pointing out that the red NS scheme on the MTH ES44AC is one of the NS heritage schemes, in this case inspired by the N&W GP9 units circa 1958.
Peter, NS, like other railroads, sometimes paint new diesels in schemes that harken back to its predecessor roads. These are called heritage schemes. Model train companies love creating those schemes on the locomotives they have already previously manufactured.
For instance, I have an MTH NS SD70ACe painted in the Wabash heritage scheme.

Jim,
I think we need a picture of what's going on here. See below.
The original Norfolk Southern has nothing to do with the Norfolk & Western. The below picture shows the red Norfolk Southern heritage scheme that MTH made. It's not inspired by any Norfolk & Western locomotive. It's inspired by the original Norfolk Southern scheme which you can see if you click the link to Original Norfolk Southern Paint Scheme.
Stu
I saw this unit last night at Starkey, Va. heading for Belews Creek, NC.
You’re right, Stu. That has to be the unit he’s talking about. At least, I couldn’t find any other red heritage schemes that NS has done and that MTH has produced.
