Narrowed it down to an RMT Beep. Experiences? Advice?

Hi Mannyrock, I’ve got two of them, and they’re reliable. They won’t pull more than a few cars, but they are fun. Here they are on my portable Area 51/ Christmas layouts.

I have a few BEEPs around, they'd a fun little locomotive.

Here's one I upgraded to the hilt with command, cruise, sound, custom lighting all around, etc.

My only beep is the original KMT battery operated one, but overall you can't go wrong with them on a small layout or for switching. 

Here's my Eeep (Electric Beep) with a postwar Scout car equipped with knuckle coupler:

There is adequate coupler mesh, long as there are no irregularities in the track...

And, in brief, as long as the consists are short and light weight, a Beep will get it where you want it to go!

Being so short, any issues going over switches ?

I haven’t had any problems with K-line O-42 on my main layout, or with a Fastrack O-31 switch on the little display layout. My main layout also has a few operating tracks, and, again, no problems. I also have no problems with a K-line Plymouth switcher.

On longer switches, the BEEP, as well as stuff like the Plymouth switcher, will have issues.  You can add relays to switch the dead rails to help with the situation, but I've yet to totally solve it here.  I'm using Ross switches, the double-slip switches and the curved O96/O72 switches are the problem switches for me and short locomotives.
