Season Greetings everyone, NBC will be taping the (CSC) Carnegie Science Center's, Miniature Railroad & Village layout this week to be shown during breaks in the Steelers Sunday Night Football game ( 8:30 p.m.) with the Bengals. This also is our annual Locomotion Weekend, if your in Pittsburgh shopping or going to the game the CSC is located across the street from Heinz Field.

This year we broke new ground using a 3D printer to replicate the capitals atop many of the decorative columns on our new mortuary model of the Allegheny County Mortuary (built 1902).  Lionel has also loaned us many models from their archives displayed in the CSC foyer and on the second floor next to our MRRV.  There will be a lot going, some added layouts on display, a train doctor so bring those old engines & cars to be oiled and fixed, and Saturday bring the kids for breakfast with Santa. Note Sunday the Science Center will close at 4:00 because of the game.

When i worked the Fox games, we shot the Lionel display in Chestefield. We didn't do many Steeler games because of doing the other conference.

We we also shot the display in Dallas in the mall. I always pushed for local layouts to be shot.

My company owns and operates the mobile units for NBC. Give those guys the works. They're a bunch of good guys.

Did I miss something?  Watched the game last night, but didn't see any train segments.

That doesn't really surprise me though because they will often film segments in advance that never get used.  Then again, maybe they aired it while I was outside with the pooch for a few minutes, who had some business to attend to.

Still, "my team" won, which is the important thing in the long run.

I didn't see anything either but then again watched very little of the game.

I asked the engineers on the truck for a copy of any footage they shot.  If and when I get it, I'll post it.  Too much better TV on last night than that so it only got checked out during commercial on the channel I was watching.

When we shot at the Lionel Layout back in Detroit about 12 years back or so Chuck Horan made up special "NFL on FOX" box cars.  I made sure that we had quite a few bumps going to break with the Lionel layout in it.  Of course it helped that all the guys on the crew knew I was into trains.  After all I sent them to Lionel just for that reason.

Didn't get to see the first half running trains at Kennywood Park with the Pittsburgh Independent Hi-Railers. Thinking it would be shown early for kids to watch but  from what I read here guess no one saw the layout.  We still have an outside chance if the Steelers get to the playoffs & NBC has the game. (LOL).

I watched the whole game and didn't see any shots of the CSC layout either.  But they did have plenty of other local scenes filling those spaces between the end of a commercial break and the return to the field.  There were outdoor night-time shots of the city and there was also a 15 to 20-second shot of the inside of what looked like a public building decorated for Christmas but I did not hear the announcers identifying the building?

But the game itself was a pleasant surprise, but likely too little, too late, for our "Stillers" this season.

Interesting since MTH made Isaly's Cars during the big Pittsburgh Series craze.

On a related note, Isaly's and Lionel are giving away a family membership to CSC AND a Peanuts Christmas train set. Want to bet all of us know someone who could use either or both?
