Got the part number BG-5000000 from a topic on the forum. But I don't seem to be able to order this directly from MTH and the FIND IT LOCALLY option shows nothing. How do I get a couple of these?

Don,
Why can't you order directly from MTH?
Don, Brasseur Electric Trains has that part for $16.00 Contact them at 989-793-4753 or at www.brasseurelectrictrains.com

Barry, I couldn't see any way to order from MTH directly. It seems like they wanted me to go to a dealer. I saw no order form or any way to place an order. Truthfully, mTH's web site design is straight out of the 80's. But I'm no web whiz either.

Don,
Truthfully, MTH's web site design is straight out of the 80's.
No, on the contrary, the web page is just fine.
From the MTH Home page, click on the "Service" tab near the top of the page. Then on the Service page, click on "Order Parts". You'll wind up here, where you can enter your part number.
John,
If I go through the dealer portal and attempt to order this particular part, it comes up on the order as "Not Available", so I guess that the process to order the part via the consumer side also knows it's not available.
However, when I attempt to order a part via the consumer process that is available, I see a Buy it Now! opportunity and get to actually put it in my cart.
So, the consumer site appears to work a bit differently from the dealer site, i.e., I can backorder a part if I'm a dealer but not if I'm a consumer. I can understand why MTH would treat dealers and consumers differently, since the former is in a committed business relationship where there's a responsibility to purchase what's ordered (at the time of actual fulfillment) while the latter is not.
I don't think it's right to take customer payment in advance of fulfillment, or practical to hold customer payment information until the part is shipped. It appears that the process is working as designed. although it would be nice if the inability for a consumer to order an out-of-stock part was a bit better explained.
I see, I only tried the part in question, I didn't go to any other parts. I think they should simply say "out of stock" instead of leading me to a page with no information as to why I can't buy it. I can see why consumers are confused by the ordering procedure if they happen to be looking for an out-of-stock part.
I tried to get one at YORK at the MTH parts booth and was told they are out of stock. They told me they might have them in October, but didn't know for sure.
MTH is out at the moment.
