Just bought a Lionel 6-19807 Extended Vision Caboose With Smoke only to find out someone had removed the smoke unit entirely and bolted on a smokestack in it's place.

I read past posts about installing an HO smoke unit, but those are no longer available.

Any ideas?

Isn't there a half price parts sale at Lionel and if so does anyone know the part number.

Thanks,

John

Here is the breakdown of your caboose, however, the 6102722050 smoke unit is unavailable from Lionel.

Forum Sponsor S&W Parts does list the part as one they inventory.

It looks like you will also need some supporting parts as shown in the diagram.

Thanks for that link.  It is helpful.  Not seeing the smoke unit at S&W plus the mounting bracket seems unavailable.  The correct smokestack is available from Lionel though.

Is this the correct operating voltage for this application if I try to duplicate the original setup?

For a conventional setup.  The resistor in the caboose diagram is a 1W 10 Ohm looks like a wirewound.  I can center mount it and use a hose to run up to the stack (which Lionel has) or a makeshift brass rod.

Installing smoke units in a caboose

I believe the smoke units are just not inventoried yet, I suspect they will have them on-line at some point.

This is the AA-1600000 HO smoke unit, currently listed as out of stock.

This is the AA-2100002 single resistor smoke unit, not much bigger and still in stock.

John,

What would the wiring diagram look like for this as I'm thinking of upgrading items like a caboose and a building smoke stack?

Thanks!

For the HO smoke unit, you need a regulated 5-6 volts for the resistor and around 2-3V for the fan.  I typically selected a resistor for the fan from the 6V resistor supply to yield a suitable voltage for the fan.
