I have a Z4k transformer. Can't remember if the SW-9 engine was on Handle/track 1 or Handle/track 2. While I was running my Railking M1a with whistle blowing on track 1, the "shut down" SW-9 started running faster and faster ( no sound, no lights). Couldn't stop it. So I turned down the handles and switched off the power. I know I can roll the thumb wheel to accelerate the engine while in shut down mode while it is on the track, but that was not the case. My gut feeling was telling me that using the whistle on the M1a started it. Any advice would be helpful. Thank you, Fred

Every now and then we get the same type of post with an engine taking off in command mode. No one seems to know exactly why.
Maybe a double short putting the engine into conventional and then taking off.
However, changing the engine's address might help using the Engine set up menu .(.edit address command)
I'm assuming both engine with run separately with their own ID.
Clean your track . Did it happen just the once, maybe it won't happen again.
Is the engine back to normal? G
GREGG, I think it was a short. Because later on my RS11 kept shutting down. I shut power. turned it back on and heard a buzz sound form somewhere. Not Good! Turned everything on again and all worked. Then it happened again. So I checked a questionable cabboose on the end of the RS11 freight. It had the buzz. The pick up roller's plastic fastener broke which caused the loose roller to drag. The rollers on this MTH RK cabboose and their trucks, fasteners were not the best design. I purchased from a long since closed hobbyshop. I found a piece of the plastic fastener when I switched a track which wouldn't switch all the way. The piece of fastener was lodged between the fixed rail and the moving one. This car always behaved "short" of great over the switches because of its rollers. I should have returned it from the beginning. So now its "bad ordered" until the trucks are replaced. But I will treat myself to a new Pennsy caboose! Thanks for your concern.
GGG, the SW-9 is back to normal. I believe it was a caboose causing the problem as mentioned in my post before this one. Thank you, Fred
