Hi

A friend of mine retrieved these items from his parents house and wanted to know if they had any value. I have no clue when it comes to HO or N Scale. I believe the N Scale is with the pen in the picture.

Can someone give me a ballpark? I'm guessing less than $40 but once again that is a guess. Thank you.

Paul

The caboose looks pretty decent for the N scale.  When I sell my excess nan scale freight cars on the bay, I start the auction at .99 cents.  You really can't start much higher than that and expect it to sell For these older cars with Rapido style couplers.  If the cars were Kadee or Micro Trains or other manufacturers with the more realistic knuckle couplers they could be started at a higher price.  The caboose could fetch several bucks. The caboose looks like a Con-Cor Bay Window style caboose.  The New Haven locomotive - I would start that one for at least $10 and maybe $20.  This is all older N scale with Rapido couplers.  Newer N scale has all knuckle couplers so whoever buys this would have to do an easy coupler conversion to run it with newer N scale.  I am guessing the New Haven locomotive is a Con-Cor F-3 which is a good running locomotive.  There is a Con-Cor Amtrak F-3 with box now selling on eBay for $28.50 after starting at .99 cents with 6 bids.  I would probably start this one at $10 and expect it to sell for at least that amount.

The cars look like the type I usually put $2-$2.50 on at the train shows; the smaller powerpack, $4. I would think the larger one would have more value, maybe double that or more.  The engines should be tested for running.  If working, the HO are around $10-14 at the shows.  So I think your guesstimate was pretty accurate.  Hope this helps.

As a ex-HO'er and N scaler......All the HO is Tyco. To be honest no more than $1 each on the cars and $3 for the engines. If they are unaltered they are 100% plastic on the cars with talgo couplers which are junk. The locos have 4 metal wheels and two axles powered and did not run well new. I'd be happy to get $20 for the lot. The Tyco power pack is $1 while the MRC pack is $5 if it works....many of that era are DOA.

The N scale $3 on the cars.....not sure on the loco...can't see who made it. But if it's the same age as the cars $10-15 max......todays N scale has passed up these older units.....just like O!!!
