Hello all you happy O-Gauge Railroaders!
After a lengthy hiatus (Life, starting HO Collecting, other interests, etc) I have returned to O-Gauge Railroading and Operating. Most experienced modelers have a permanent layout in their houses or set up only under the tree, but not me. I run my trains a la loop-running-on-the-floor-and-sometimes-under-the-bed style.
I recently pulled out the one accessory I have in the hopes to spice up the small loop but alas I cannot seem to get it operating no matter how many times I try to reposition the wires.
First off, let me say that this is what I have:
- Standard CW-80 Transformer (No Lionchief or TMCC or Legacy. A Lionchief terminal track is set up in my loop but may not see use as I often run LC Engines with the remote on transformer power)
- #12029 Fastrack Accessory Activator Pack, Circa 2012
- #2115 MPC-Era Operating Dwarf Signal, Circa 1980s (Does this matter? I dont know if MPC accessories are compatible with today's track & wires.
Wires and electronics that do not involve terminal wires to the power-pack/transformer confuse me, and I am seeking tips on how to properly wire the signal for correct operation.
Here is the overview of the components I have. I truthfully dont think I need the 153C but its included. My track is strictly fastrack, no Tubular. The black wires are from the accessory track.
Here is the underside of the signal itself. The lights are facing my thumb. Red light is on top and green on the bottom
Here is the #12029 Accessory track set up. The breaks are marked by the green wires.
Although I truthfully may not need it heres the CW-80. I tried the green wires in there but nothing works, or it lights but the colors don't switch.
I guess with the photos outta the way here are my questions.
- Do I need any of the Green Wires for operation?
- If so, what goes where and how many are needed?
- Do I need the accessory track wires?
- If so, what goes where?
- Do each of those screws have a different purpose?
- Which wires go to which screw, if placement is necessary?
- Does the placement of the accessory track wires (one is connected to power rail, one on the outside rail inside breaks) matter in regards to operating the signal?
- Do I need any specific tools like a soldering gun (cuz I dont think I have one)?
Any and every bit of feedback would be greatly appreciated. Im just a young modeler hoping to make it big once I get older, and honestly these wires are greatly confusing for me. Thank you all gents!
