I bought a K-line Plymouth switcher off the bay today. I got it for a song because it sustained some minor damage including a broken rear marker light. Does anyone have a spare marker light or know where I could get one that would work on this engine? Also I want to take the engine apart for painting. Does anyone have or know where I can get a schematic for this engine?

Tom, I've got two of them, one of the Bay so probably no paper work, the other is a KCC set with 6 ore cars. I'll dig that out but I don't know if any thing that came with the set will help taking it apart. Check Brasseur's for marker light, maybe even one off a caboose. I think these are neat little critters and was really hoping one of the other companies would pick up production of these. You wouldn't be painting it green and yellow would you?

I looked at a K-Line by Lionel version. (6-21280) Most of the parts are available except the cab marker lamp, 2 red, one green.
As far as the schematic goes, it's harnesses off of a board or to a board. If you take photos before undoing anything, I think you should be able to figure it out.
Multi-meter time.
There's a rear harness with lamps and a headlamp harness with marker lamps for the lights. May have to glue the broken housing.
You might check with PSC for marker lights. It may be necessary to replace a pair to have them match. I don't remember any significant issues when I have disassembled them as far as figuring out the wiring, it's fairly simple.
I like the font on the green and yellow, I can't make out if the black switcher has the same font.
Yeah, it looks like the same font. The size is smaller than anyone makes in dry transfer, so I'll have to have them custom made in vinyl.
With regard to taking off the shell, let it be known that the cab and hood are two separate castings.
Generally you want to remove the screws holding the cab first, since the hood is hooked under an opening in the front+center of the cab.
Some of the screws under the hood hold the smoke and reverse unit switches, so be sure which screws go to which as I think there are a couple of different sizes under there.

I have a burned out marker lamp bulb and would like to keep with the grain of wheat style originally used on this critter. With that noted could someone tell me the voltage rating of the bulb? I want to assume something like 18 or 20 vac but with the electronics and small size could it be less? Thank you.
