While at York I want to buy the metal gears between the motor and truck that replace the plastic gears currently in the engine.  One has failed and now I want to replace the gears in both trucks. So I get the right part, what do I ask for?  Does this have a Lionel part number?

Ideally, I would like to give the engine to someone on Thursday to fix and pick it up on Friday.  Does anyone do this service?

Thanks.

Rod,

I do not know what part this is.  I described the symptom (grinding noise) to a post war repair person and he stated that the most probable cause was a plastic gear in the drive mechanism that regularly fails.  He stated this is a common failure for this engine and a long term fix is to replace that bad plastic part with a replacement metal part.  He stated this part was metal in earlier trucks but the plastic one was added as a cost savings measure.  I should have bought the parts from him at the time.

Since he stated it was a common problem I was hoping someone would be familiar with the issue and know what part I need to buy.
