Try an auto parts store. This is similar to a battery terminal tool. It is used to remove battery cables that are used on top mount battery posts. LOCOMOTION
Call Jeff at The Train Tender. He has them.
Bob
take it a welder, have him weld a nub on the end and grind
it to shape.
also a little trick I learned from jeff Kane.
put your loco in a pile of towels in your lap, take a nail set and wack the axle.
the wheel will work itself off after several taps. you can use this technique with your puller
also, put the puller on and screw it down to put some pressure on the axle. put the loco with puller attached
in your lap again with towels and wack the end of the puller with the hammer, the wheel will work itself off.
ive had this technique work everytime even with stubborn wheels.
I am not 100 percent certain because I'd need to see the puller at another angle to be sure, but it looks like Romiller has the last re-issue of the Lionel wheel puller. If so, the flat part at the end of the jaw should be wider than the rest of the jaw. And the "O" in Lionel would actually be a "C", as in "LICNEL"
I checked, and I do not see them on Jeff's list any longer.
They came with a spare jaw when originally sold by Lionel.
I may have one to spare. Drop me a note.
Charles , you are exactly right. The o in lionel does look like a C and the flat part is wider. If you have the leg to sell please let me know
Thanks a million

Seriously? Did he suggest that you reinstall the wheels with a hammer??
I've never found it necessary to whack the end of a Lionel wheel puller with a hammer.
I do have at least one other wheel puller, which is not as well designed / built as the Lionel one, whose instructions do recommend the "hammer method".
I needed an arm in January. Only place I found some stock was from jack4911@yahoo.com
they arm pricey....35.00 for each arm
A possible option to repair the broken arm: weld or braze on a short piece of small angle iron, bend and grind to fit as shown in pic.
Second option, use a modified auto battery terminal puller. The jaws can be ground thinner to fit between loco wheels and frame. The bottom end of the center screw needs to be ground down to slightly less than axle size - or drill it to accept a piece of drill shank to press the axle end.

There is a 1980's Lionel ST-311 wheel puller on EBay right now. Some rust on the forcing screw, and only one pin. It's at $157.50 with a couple of hours to go.
