I recently acquired two RailKing smoking tank cars, one used, one new. The used one didn't work, and when I opened it up was surprised the smoke unit had a fan. These cars have the "pinched wick" where a wick is pinched between 2 elements. Not only was the wick pinched, but also tied tight to the element. I replaced the wick with fiberglass wadding like with the others I've done when I come across this. The problem is both these cars run very hot- way too much smoke production, and the fan doesn't help the problem! My question is what type of resistor or otherwise could I begin to experiment with to tame the smoke output?
Thanks,
Rich
