They might wait until next Tuesday.
I am so glad I am out of this rat race, wondering when items are really going to be shipped. I'm talking about Lionel, MTH and Atlas. The frustration level just isn't worth it to me. I also operate/run Marklin HO and rarely do they miss a shipping date, at least on the items I order.
Steve
I noticed that since Atlas O has been around, the operators of the small hobby shops in Michigan do not want to spend too many dollars stocking Atlas O freight cars for the local railroads.
The big Rider's Hobby Shops store is the only one in Michigan that will order all freight cars and some locos that represent the Michigan railroads.
Andrew
Preordering from Atlas O has always been and continues to be the only way to get what you want. We take pre-orders for each months announcement, then add some on top for store shelves.
With the higher prices and lower margins from Lionel for their scale rolling stock, I have been collecting more and more Atlas O for my own railroad. Personally, I really like them.

Any news on when the Dash 8-40 CW are arriving?
At the York MFGs forum in April Rob Pisani from Atlas stated this was the next engine to go into production , it has a 3Q est on the current A-Z schedule. Since we are waiting 7 years from the original announcement it remains to be seen if it actually delivers this year. Just saying!
Got an Atlas email forwarded by a dealer. No more six-month catalog, print or electronic. Monthly only, print and electronic.
David
So I guess no July catalog! .............................
Swafford posted:So I guess no July catalog! .............................
And for those counting, we're now one full month into 3Q2017. Stuff really needs to ship next week or so from China, if Atlas-O expects to make their 3Q commitments to dealers/consumers. Otherwise another quarter slips on by in the blink of an eye. I'm still hoping for those CSX: How Tomorrow Moves 53' containers and the Golden Spike Club TTX Caboose. That's it for me on the Atlas-O front these days.
Monthly only!
What hobby shops are getting the printed monthly catalogs?
Now they can surprise us each month.
Andrew
One month at a time will keep Lionel and MTH from immediately offering similar items in their catalogs.
Andrew
My Lionel IC grain door PS1 box car just came in a few days ago- $81 after shipping! What on earth was I thinking about when I placed that order???
As far as Atlas, they are still my favorite manufacturer. However after we lost Jim Weaver and then Bob Thatcher / AM Hobbies Atlas has never been the same.
Thanks
Richard

Well, in more ways than one.
many more ways than one.....i've purchased more atlas O cars this last year than in the past15-18 years....

Actually at the amount of product Atlas announces for reservation each month a one page printed sheet is more than enough for Atlas O, forget catalogs. JMO
Where are all the really sweet wood sided reefers Atlas used to churn out? Did they run out of prototypes? I can never have enough beer reefers. How about a wood sided Rheingold reefer? Prototypical or not I want some.

I'll buy every road number they produce!
Well then Jim, your money is safe. Atlas makes nice stuff when they finally make it. As for the bi-yearly catalog, who cares, it's just full of stuff we will never see or take 9 years to make so what's the point of the catalog

Is that a complaint or an observation?
Atlas is pretty much on track from reservation time to delivery on their freight cars, usually within 13-15 months. Unfortunately the same can not be said for motive power and with the exception of the full CZ sets previous CZ cars were not unlike motive power for production delays, just saying.
Well, what'a know!
I just received a note from Mr. Muffin -
My Atlas Southern Pacific single sheathed box car, Duluth Missabe & Iron Ramge, and Duluth Missabe & Northern single sheathed box cars have arrived today.
Thanks.
Richard
Its an observation in the form of a complaint
The announcements for the New Paint Schemes on the 40' Hy-Cube Box Car and the new road numbers on the 40' pulpwood flat car are posted on the website.
They did not change the catalog linked on the O scale side. They have monthly digital catalogs for ALL SCALES on the Atlas Model Railroad page.

Also note that three items are scheduled to ship out of China on August 7: Master Series Extended Vision Cabooses, Master Series 55-ton Coal Hoppers, and Trainman Series Bulkhead Flatcars.
Using past shipping as a reference, it seems likely Atlas-O will then ship these items to their dealers in late September (approximately 7 weeks after shipment from China). So these items might be the last we see for a 3Q2017 delivery. Sadly, no 53' containers or Maxi-IV Well cars in 3Q2017, so another quarter slips by without them. But perhaps that Golden Spike Club TTX Extended Vision Caboose I've been waiting for will also ship with the other extended vision cabooses. A reasonable assumption, right? Meanwhile, my TTX Maxi-IV well cars will continue to wait for their CSX: How Tomorrow Moves containers.
And oh... by the way, I really feel for you folks who pre-ordered some of those locomotives whose orders were due back in early 2014 and early 2015. WOW!!!! Do you even remember ordering them at this point???

I did not see any updated container report [where did you find that?] but on Atlas facebook page they announced Rob Pisani resigning as of July 31 with Paul Graf and Tom Haedrich handling Robs position for the time being.
Like the Dash-840Cs I ordered back in 2012 that I dont even want anymore. The ones they keep saying will get made but they cant even make a shipping schedule that works how will they get a newly tooled loco?

Click HERE for Atlas-O's shipping schedule located on the Atlas-O website. That's where I saw the three items with a ship-date of 8/7/2017 out of China.
Hadn't yet heard about Rob Pisani's resignation. So thanks for that info.
Atlas O 1966 HY-Cube box cars in fantasy schemes? Wonder how they choose the numbers?
With both Jerry and Rob gone from Atlas this year sounds like a big shake up for the O line, does anyone know if Atlas will offer the Pipe loads on the latest Bulkhead flat cars as a separate item for sale? wonder if the Tman GE 8-40CW is really going to be the next motive power to arrive or will it be the F3s,

I count 12 rolling stock and containers with 3Q 17 delivery listed guess how many container shipments that is going to take!
just saying.
I love their rolling stock. Sturdy, great painting, and the boxes are not made of flimsy material, like Lionel's has become. I rarely need/want anything so badly that I can't wait longer than originally anticipated. And if Atlas cancels something I really wanted, well there are worse problems in life.

The new paint schemes on the Pullman-Standard 40' Hy-Cube Box Cars are not 100% correct for these freight cars. These railroads purchased Pullman-Standard Box Cars in the 1960's and the Chessie System had some repainted in the 1970's. The real P-S Box Cars were 50' and 60' long box cars, at least the railroads had similar box cars.
Some operators can only run 40' freight cars or have sections of their track plans where only 40' freight cars can fit safely. They can purchase these 40' Hy-Cube Box Cars.

Well, in more ways than one.
That's for sure. I have many 40s era Atlas cars, really like them and looking for more. Waiting for the PRR X-29 Express cars to come out (I'm not in any hurry for them-got plenty to run now).
Menards has yet to make a model train car that I would buy.
CAPPilot posted:... Menards has yet to make a model train car that I would buy.
As my layout progresses through various stages of construction, I'm finding the layout itself to be quite a focal point in its own right. The trains become actors on the stage, and therefore don't need to have every riveted detail. Without a layout, I might have gotten caught up in the marketing hype of detail over function. And Atlas-O cars are surely filled with detail that many of us enjoy. But I've also learned to appreciate what Menards has brought -- and continues to bring -- to the party.
As I said in another thread here (that has yet to be deleted ), Menards has single-handedly made it "cool again" to run traditional-sized, O-27 style trains. And I can't wait to see a Menards nose-art military train running on one portion of my layout, while an Atlas-O train of colorful billboard reefers runs on another. They should complement each other well on a "toy-themed" layout (with copious amounts of meticulous attention) that will serve as a stage for several styles of model trains. Each to his own.
Are all the newly announced 40' Hy-Cubes faux? Isn't the SP. Hy-Cube closest to the 1:1?
These cars were originally built for Burlington, Northern Pacific, Milwaukee Rd ,IC ,D&RG later cars went to ATSF, CNW and UP this version had a plug door, some of the original cars were repainted to BN, also the SP/SSW versions were outside braced cars instead of smooth sided , only the first 5 were built by PS the next 2 were different builders and UP was home built, but you are correct its the closest.
Here is a CP Rail extra height 40' box car that appears to have been rebuilt before being painted in the Multi-Mark scheme. Notice the rusty, dotted line at the top.
It is on the Trackside Treasure website.

Actually more of SPs order for these cars went to Cotton Belt than parent SP. these were outside ribbed cars. The Atlas model is of the original Pullman Standard cars, other mfgs built this model car later on.
