I noticed that since Atlas O has been around, the operators of the small hobby shops in Michigan do not want to spend too many dollars stocking Atlas O freight cars for the local railroads.

The big Rider's Hobby Shops store is the only one in Michigan that will order all freight cars and some locos that represent the Michigan railroads.

Preordering from Atlas O has always been and continues to be the only way to get what you want.  We take pre-orders for each months announcement, then add some on top for store shelves.

With the higher prices and lower margins from Lionel for their scale rolling stock, I have been collecting more and more Atlas O for my own railroad.  Personally, I really like them.

So I guess no July catalog! .............................

And for those counting, we're now one full month into 3Q2017.  Stuff really needs to ship next week or so from China, if Atlas-O expects to make their 3Q commitments to dealers/consumers.  Otherwise another quarter slips on by in the blink of an eye.    I'm still hoping for those CSX: How Tomorrow Moves  53' containers and the Golden Spike Club TTX Caboose.  That's it for me on the Atlas-O front these days.

Also note that three items are scheduled to ship out of China on August 7:  Master Series Extended Vision Cabooses, Master Series 55-ton Coal Hoppers, and Trainman Series Bulkhead Flatcars.

Using past shipping as a reference, it seems likely Atlas-O will then ship these items to their dealers in late September (approximately 7 weeks after shipment from China).  So these items might be the last we see for a 3Q2017 delivery.  Sadly, no 53' containers or Maxi-IV Well cars in 3Q2017, so another quarter slips by without them.    But perhaps that Golden Spike Club TTX Extended Vision Caboose I've been waiting for will also ship with the other extended vision cabooses.  A reasonable assumption, right?  Meanwhile, my TTX Maxi-IV well cars will continue to wait for their CSX: How Tomorrow Moves  containers.

And oh... by the way, I  really  feel for you folks who pre-ordered some of those locomotives whose orders were due back in early 2014 and early 2015.  WOW!!!!    Do you even remember ordering them at this point???

I did not see any updated container report [where did you find that?] but on Atlas facebook page they announced Rob Pisani resigning as of July 31 with Paul Graf and Tom Haedrich handling Robs position for the time being.

Click HERE for Atlas-O's shipping schedule located on the Atlas-O website.  That's where I saw the three items with a ship-date of 8/7/2017 out of China.

Hadn't yet heard about Rob Pisani's resignation.  So thanks for that info.

With both Jerry and Rob gone from Atlas this year sounds like a big shake up for the O line, does anyone know if Atlas will offer the Pipe loads on the latest Bulkhead flat cars as a separate item for sale? wonder if the Tman GE 8-40CW is really going to be the next motive power to arrive or will it be the F3s,

I count 12 rolling stock and containers with 3Q 17 delivery listed guess how many container shipments that is going to take!

just saying.

I love their rolling stock.  Sturdy, great painting, and the boxes are not made of flimsy material, like Lionel's has become.  I rarely need/want anything so badly that I can't wait longer than originally anticipated.  And if Atlas cancels something I really wanted, well there are worse problems in life.

For selfish reasons, I just hope Atlas-O comes through with those "CSX: How Tomorrow Moves" containers.  That's the one item I pre-ordered through Charlie Ro that required a deposit.    Worst-case scenario if Atlas-O starts to not deliver on items (aside from minor disappointment), I've got a couple of MTH pre-orders outstanding with Charlie that we can apply the deposit money toward.  After ordering from Charlie since the 1970's, I know he's not going anywhere.

The new paint schemes on the Pullman-Standard 40' Hy-Cube Box Cars are not 100% correct for these freight cars. These railroads purchased Pullman-Standard Box Cars in the 1960's and the Chessie System had some repainted in the 1970's. The real P-S Box Cars were 50' and 60' long box cars, at least the railroads had similar box cars.

Some operators can only run 40' freight cars or have sections of their track plans where only 40' freight cars can fit safely. They can purchase these 40' Hy-Cube Box Cars.

A study in contrasts for sure: Atlas and Menards !

Well, in more ways than one.

That's for sure.  I have many 40s era Atlas cars, really like them and looking for more.  Waiting for the PRR X-29 Express cars to come out (I'm not in any hurry for them-got plenty to run now).

Menards has yet to make a model train car that I would buy.

As my layout progresses through various stages of construction, I'm finding the layout itself to be quite a focal point in its own right.  The trains become actors on the stage, and therefore don't need to have every riveted detail.  Without a layout, I might have gotten caught up in the marketing hype of detail over function.  And Atlas-O cars are surely filled with detail that many of us enjoy.  But I've also learned to appreciate what Menards has brought -- and continues to bring -- to the party.

As I said in another thread here (that has yet to be deleted ), Menards has single-handedly made it "cool again" to run traditional-sized, O-27 style trains.  And I can't wait to see a Menards nose-art military train running on one portion of my layout, while an Atlas-O train of colorful billboard reefers runs on another.  They should complement each other well on a "toy-themed" layout (with copious amounts of meticulous attention) that will serve as a stage for several styles of model trains.  Each to his own.

These cars were originally built for Burlington, Northern Pacific, Milwaukee Rd ,IC ,D&RG  later cars went to ATSF, CNW and UP this version had a plug door, some of the original cars were repainted to BN, also the SP/SSW versions were outside braced cars instead of smooth sided , only the first 5 were built by PS the next 2 were different builders and UP was home built, but you are correct its the closest.
